Ganesh immersion celebrations in Andhra Pradesh turned tragic on Sunday as accidents in three districts claimed eight lives. In West Godavari’s Narasapuram mandal, a tractor lost control during the procession in East Talluru village and ran over devotees, killing four: Kadiyam Dinesh (9), Guruju Murali (38), Eevan Suryanarayana (58), and Tirumala Narasimhamurthy (35). One person, Kancherla Prasad, suffered serious injuries.
In Alluri Sitaramaraju district, a speeding car hit devotees watching the procession in Chintalavidi village, killing retired RTC employee Korra Sita (65) and Gunta Kondababu (35). Six women sustained injuries and were shifted to a district hospital.
In Chittoor district’s Gangavaram mandal, two men, Bhargav (28) and Charan, drowned after a Ganesh idol accidentally fell on them during immersion rituals.
Former CM and YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed condolences and urged the government to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
