The Bihar MLC Elections have attracted attention after the Election Commission decided to hold polls in three phases for four vacant seats in the Bihar Legislative Council. These seats became vacant after leaders from BJP and JD(U) won assembly elections and resigned from their MLC posts. The Bihar MLC Elections will now decide who fills these important positions.
The vacant seats earlier belonged to leaders such as Samrat Choudhary, Mangal Pandey, Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha, and Radha Charan Sah. They resigned from the Legislative Council after becoming MLAs, which created four vacancies.
The Election Commission scheduled the voting in phases because the seats fall under different election categories. One seat belongs to the local bodies quota. Representatives from panchayats and municipal bodies vote for this seat. The other seats come under the MLAs’ quota.
Officials also reviewed the remaining tenure of each seat before announcing the schedule. Some seats require by-elections, while others will be filled during the regular council election cycle.
Political analysts believe the final results will mostly depend on the current strength of parties in the state assembly.
