Kosi Gandak Flood Talks with Nepal: Bihar Government Begins Three-Day Meeting

Kosi Gandak flood talks with Nepal

Kosi Gandak flood talks with Nepal have started as the Bihar government works to reduce flood damage caused by rivers flowing from Nepal into the state. Officials from India and Nepal will hold discussions for three days to address several technical and administrative issues related to river management.

The Kosi Gandak flood talks with Nepal aim to improve flood control, irrigation systems, and the operation of major river projects. The meeting of the Joint Committee on the Kosi and Gandak projects is taking place on April 30 and May 1 in Nepal. Senior officials from Bihar’s Water Resources Department are attending the discussions.

Key topics include embankment erosion near the Kosi barrage, maintenance of canals, removal of encroachments, and security of project staff. Officials will also discuss water discharge levels, drainage problems that cause waterlogging in farms, and steps to control silt in canals.

On May 2, representatives from both countries will hold a separate meeting on flood forecasting for rivers that flow through India and Nepal. The Bihar government also plans to seek real-time rainfall and water-level data from Nepal to improve flood prediction during the monsoon season.
