A major political development has shaken Tamil Nadu politics as the AIADMK Split Boosts CM Vijay Strength in the state assembly. A rebel faction of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), led by senior leader K. Shanmugam, announced support for Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
Around 30 AIADMK MLAs are believed to be backing the rebel group. They said they would vote in favor of Vijay’s government during the upcoming floor test in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. This support is expected to increase the government’s numbers and ensure stability.
With the new backing, the ruling alliance led by Vijay could reach a strength of nearly 150 MLAs in the 234-member assembly. The development comes just days after Vijay became Chief Minister following the 2026 election that changed the state’s political landscape. The AIADMK Split Boosts CM Vijay Strength and strengthens his position in the state government.
The split has pushed the AIADMK, led by former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, into a fresh political crisis. Political observers say the shift in support may reshape alliances in Tamil Nadu politics in the coming months.
