AAP MLA Majinder Singh Lalpura molestation case court verdict

In a major verdict, the AAP MLA Majinder Singh Lalpura molestation case reached closure after nearly 12 years. The Additional District and Sessions Judge on Friday sentenced Lalpura, the MLA from Khadoor Sahib, and seven others to four years of rigorous imprisonment for molesting and torturing a Scheduled Caste girl in 2013.

The court, led by Judge Prem Kumar, convicted the accused under the SC/ST Act and the IPC. Along with Lalpura, the convicts include policemen Devinder Kumar, Saraj Singh, Ashwani Kumar, Tarsem Singh, and Harjinder Singh, besides Harwinder Singh Shoshi and Kanwaldeep Singh. Each was ordered to serve a four-year term and pay a fine of ₹50,000.

The case dates back to March 3, 2013, when the victim was attending a wedding on Goindwal Sahib road. She was assaulted by 12 accused, including six policemen, who allegedly tore her garments. The Supreme Court later took suo motu notice of the crime and ordered paramilitary protection for the victim.

The court also ruled that the victim is entitled to compensation, with the amount to be determined later. Meanwhile, three other accused were sentenced to one year in prison for lesser charges under the IPC.
