Abhaya Brigade: Bihar’s New Anti-Romeo Squad Takes Strong Action

Abhaya Brigade police team protecting students

The Abhaya Brigade is Bihar’s new special police team formed to stop harassment around schools and colleges. The Bihar government has launched the Abhaya Brigade to protect female students and take quick action against miscreants. The aim is to make school and college areas safer.

Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary ordered strict steps after taking charge. Following his direction, police in every district began forming anti-Romeo squads. These teams will include both male and female officers to ensure safe surroundings for young girls.

More than 1,300 police station areas will have Abhaya Brigade units. If anyone is caught harassing girls more than once, their name will be added to the Goonda Register under the “Eve-Teaser” category. A female inspector will lead each unit, supported by two male constables and one female constable.

Police teams will patrol schools and colleges regularly. Officers in plain clothes will also stay around sensitive spots to catch miscreants who try to tease or trouble students. Strict action will follow every complaint.

To improve mobility, the police headquarters is buying nearly 2,000 scooters for the Abhaya Brigade. The government hopes this initiative will create safer spaces for all female students in Bihar.
