Acharya Devvrat takes oath as Maharashtra Governor at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai on Monday (September 15, 2025). Bombay High Court Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar administered the oath of office in the presence of top political and administrative leaders.
President Droupadi Murmu had appointed Acharya Devvrat to take charge of Maharashtra in addition to his duties as Gujarat Governor. The appointment followed C.P. Radhakrishnan’s exit after his election as the Vice-President of India. Acharya Devvrat takes oath as Maharashtra Governor just days after the announcement from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan drew the participation of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, senior ministers, bureaucrats, and police officers. Acharya Devvrat, known for his spiritual and educational background, chose Sanskrit for the oath, underlining his deep-rooted cultural ties.
At 66, Devvrat continues to serve Gujarat, where he has been Governor since 2019. He holds postgraduate degrees in Hindi and History, along with a doctorate in Naturopathy and Yogic Science. His appointment is seen as an effort to bring experienced leadership to Maharashtra while maintaining continuity in Gujarat.
The ceremony marked a significant moment for Maharashtra’s political landscape as the state welcomed a new constitutional head with strong academic, spiritual, and administrative credentials.
