Bald Eagle Drops Cat Through Windshield on US Highway

A driver in North Carolina experienced a shocking moment when a bald eagle dropped a cat onto their moving car, smashing the windshield. The incident happened on US Route 74 near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Swain County, about 65 miles from Asheville.

The caller phoned 911 immediately and told the dispatcher that the story might sound unbelievable. The driver explained that a bald eagle released the cat directly onto the passenger side of the vehicle, and the force shattered the glass instantly.

“You may not believe me, but I just had a bald eagle drop a cat through my windshield,” the driver said during the call. The dispatcher stayed calm and assured the driver that strange events do happen. The driver also mentioned that a witness saw the crash and called it the craziest thing they had ever seen. Unfortunately, the cat died and lay beside the road.

This is not the first unusual encounter involving a bald eagle. In 2020, an eagle attacked a government drone flying over a Michigan lake. The bird tore off a propeller, sending the drone spiraling into the water.

According to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, around 316,700 bald eagles live in the United States today.
