After the NDA swept past the 200-seat mark in the Bihar Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a strong message to party workers, declaring that West Bengal would be the BJP’s next major target. Addressing supporters in Delhi, PM Modi said the party had ended “jungle raj” in Bihar and would now work to uproot similar “misrule” in Bengal.
The NDA’s convincing win in Bihar has energised the BJP ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, where 293 seats will be at stake. Key issues expected to dominate the Bengal campaign include women’s safety, law and order, alleged infiltration, and the politically sensitive Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls.
The BJP says the SIR is crucial to remove illegal voters, citing Bihar’s SIR 1.0 which removed around 65 lakh fake names, while the opposition claims the exercise is politically motivated.
Following PM Modi’s comments, Bengal BJP leaders quickly amplified the message.
Suvendu Adhikari posted, “Bihar was just the trailer, Bengal is next.” BJP’s Amit Malviya added that Bengal would follow the “political flow” from Bihar.
The Trinamool Congress responded sharply, dismissing BJP’s claims. Its official handle posted, “Dream on,” while another message said, “Bring it on.” TMC leaders insisted that Mamata Banerjee would return to power with a comfortable majority in 2026.
Party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said PM Modi misunderstood Bengal’s political realities and argued that voters repeatedly reject “divisive politics”.
Meanwhile, PM Modi attacked the Congress, calling it a “parasite party” that weakens its allies. He warned regional parties against trusting the Congress, claiming internal turmoil could soon cause another split.
With the NDA’s record tally in Bihar — where the BJP emerged as the single-largest party — the political spotlight has now shifted firmly to the Bengal battleground.
