Local residents explained that these youths used a traditional bird-shooting gun. They loaded it with firecrackers and burst them during the procession. This practice is common in the area. Families from this Muslim community use the gun during celebrations or to scare animals like boars and nilgai that damage crops.
The police seized both devices and questioned the youths, Jabir and Hamid. The Deputy CM also clarified that the device was harmless and used only for crackers. He called the rumor of celebratory firing completely false.
