BJP Starts Seat-Sharing Talks with AIADMK as Piyush Goyal Meets Palaniswami
Union Minister Piyush Goyal met AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami in Chennai on Tuesday, marking the start of seat-sharing discussions between the BJP and AIADMK ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. This was Mr. Goyal’s first visit to the State after being appointed by the BJP high command as the party’s election in-charge for Tamil Nadu.
The meeting is seen as a key step towards strengthening coordination between the two parties and finalising an alliance framework for the upcoming polls. Sources said discussions focused on electoral strategy, organisational coordination, and groundwork for joint campaigning.
Mr. Goyal is expected to hold consultations with BJP leaders and party workers during his visit to review organisational preparedness. Party leaders said the BJP aims to expand its presence in Tamil Nadu through alliance politics while aligning with regional aspirations. Further rounds of talks between the BJP and AIADMK are likely in the coming months as both parties gear up for the elections.
