Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan (CP Radhakrishnan) has been elected as India’s 15th Vice President, defeating INDIA bloc candidate Justice B. Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes. While the BJP-led NDA had expected 437 votes in his favor, Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes, indicating unexpected cross-voting from the opposition camp. Reports suggest that MPs from AAP, DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT), and RJD were among those who switched sides.
Commenting on the development, Bhuvanagiri MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy said Justice Sudershan Reddy was a strong candidate and deserved recognition . He questioned Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s remarks confirming cross-voting , asking what such statements meant when the government itself was in power.
Kiran Kumar Reddy added that political maturity required welcoming the newly elected Vice President instead of creating confusion. He emphasized that the INDIA bloc would respect the outcome while continuing its democratic struggle.
