The cyber fraud using Bihar SIM network is under investigation after the CBI launched a major crackdown under Operation Chakra-5. Investigators found that criminals used SIM cards issued in Bihar to run scams across India. Many of these SIM cards came from Vaishali district.
Officials say the cyber fraud using Bihar SIM network relied on local agents and mobile dealers. These agents sold SIM cards using fake IDs and wrong addresses. Fraudsters then used these numbers to call victims and cheat them online.
The CBI carried out raids in several states during the operation. These include Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Assam, West Bengal and Jharkhand. Officers aim to stop illegal SIM sales and break the fraud network.
Investigators also found SIM box devices in the network. These machines turn international internet calls into local calls. This trick helps criminals hide their real location.
Police have arrested four SIM sellers so far. The investigation continues.
