Cyberabad Traffic Police Collect ₹2.52 Crore in Fines Through WhatsApp Complaints
The Cyberabad traffic police have issued traffic challans worth ₹2.52 crore through WhatsApp, showing a sharp rise in citizen-led enforcement. Between January and December 15, 2025, police booked 51,389 traffic violations based on complaints sent by the public through WhatsApp.
Officials said people shared photos and videos of traffic rule violations, which were carefully checked before issuing challans. These violations covered 45 different categories, including signal jumping, wrong-side driving and riding without helmets.
A major concern highlighted by police was the sharp increase in cases of driving while using mobile phones. Such cases have tripled since May 2025, indicating unsafe driving habits among motorists.
Traffic officials said the WhatsApp complaint system has helped improve road safety by encouraging public participation and increasing accountability. They urged citizens to continue reporting violations responsibly and follow traffic rules to reduce accidents. The police also reminded people not to use mobile phones while driving, as it puts lives at risk.
