Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked Constitution Day by writing a detailed letter to the citizens of India, urging them to place their duties at the forefront as the nation advances toward the goal of a Viksit Bharat. Remembering the historic adoption of the Constitution on 26 November 1949, he called the document a guiding force that has empowered millions, including individuals from modest backgrounds, to rise to the highest offices of public service.
The Prime Minister reflected on his emotional gestures of respect toward Parliament and the Constitution—bowing at the steps of Parliament in 2014 and placing the Constitution on his forehead in 2019. He praised the visionaries of the Constituent Assembly, including Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and several distinguished women members whose contributions strengthened India’s democratic foundation.
Modi highlighted the significance of this year’s Constitution Day, coinciding with the 150th birth anniversaries of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Bhagwan Birsa Munda, along with the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram and the 350th martyrdom year of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Emphasising the importance of duties outlined in Article 51A, he urged citizens—especially first-time voters—to participate actively in democracy. Modi concluded by calling upon the nation to work collectively toward building a developed and empowered India.
