A sudden Dehradun cloudburst causes floods and destruction on Monday night, following heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand’s capital. Several houses in Tapovan were submerged, while Sahastradhara and the IT Park area faced severe waterlogging. Two people are missing, and rescue teams are searching for them.
The Karligaad rivulet overflowed after the cloudburst, leading to massive flooding. The force of the water collapsed a key bridge and damaged properties along the banks. Authorities immediately shifted people from the danger zone to safer locations.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami shared updates on social media, saying shops were damaged in Sahastradhara. He confirmed that he is monitoring the situation closely. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Mr. Dhami, assuring full central support. Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke with the CM, promising every possible assistance.
District Magistrate Savin Bansal and SDM Kumkum Joshi reached the site at night to oversee rescue efforts. NDRF, SDRF, and PWD teams are working with bulldozers to clear debris and restore connectivity.
As a precaution, all schools from Class 1 to 12 in Dehradun are closed. Officials are focusing on relief, rescue, and rehabilitation.
This is the second major cloudburst in Uttarakhand within weeks, raising concerns over recurring disasters.
