A major accident was narrowly avoided in Punjab’s Mansa district after a pickup vehicle plunged into a canal due to dense fog on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 11 am near Bakshi Wala village, close to Bareta town, after a collision between a Bolero pickup vehicle and an Alto car.
According to local sources, poor visibility caused by thick fog led to the collision. After the impact, the Bolero pickup lost control and fell into the canal. The vehicle was carrying 14 people, including one child. Fortunately, all passengers were rescued safely.
Villagers from nearby areas rushed to the spot immediately after learning about the accident. They acted swiftly and helped pull all occupants out of the canal before any serious harm occurred. The people travelling in the Alto car also escaped without injuries.
Police officials confirmed that the passengers were heading from Bakshi Wala village to Sekhuwas village to attend a bhog ceremony. The quick response from locals played a crucial role in preventing loss of life.
Bareta police station in-charge Mela Singh, along with officer Kuldeep Singh, confirmed the incident. They stated that dense fog caused the collision near the canal, leading to the pickup vehicle’s fall. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
The incident highlights the dangers of driving during foggy conditions and the importance of road safety precautions.
