Direct flight services between Singapore and Vijayawada began today, marking a major milestone for international travel from Andhra Pradesh. Indigo launched the first flight from Gannavaram Airport as per the earlier announcement by the Central Government. The new link creates faster access for students, professionals, tourists, and business travellers.
The airline will operate three weekly flights, offering regular travel options and reducing dependency on Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru airports. This decision is expected to increase tourism, trade, and education-related movement between both locations. Officials expect a rise in passenger traffic due to strong NRI presence from Andhra Pradesh in Singapore.
Meanwhile, passengers expressed their happiness while boarding the first flight. They thanked Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Nara Lokesh for fulfilling the demand. Travellers displayed placards and praised the government’s efforts for improving international travel facilities.
Aviation officials described this as a progressive step toward long-term development. The state government plans to explore more international connectivity options soon. With better global access, Andhra Pradesh aims to attract more investments, education partnerships, and tourism growth in the upcoming years.
