Police added fresh rape charges against Bandi Bhagirath in the minor harassment case in Telangana. The move came after investigators reviewed the victim’s detailed statement and other evidence.
The case started when a 17-year-old girl accused Bhagirath of harassment and sexual assault. Police first filed the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Investigators later examined the victim’s statement again. They then added stricter legal sections to the case. Officials confirmed that fresh rape charges against Bandi Bhagirath now form part of the investigation.
Bhagirath is the son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Police arrested him after the Telangana High Court refused interim protection from arrest. Officers later produced him before a magistrate.
The court sent him to judicial custody. Police said they will continue the investigation and collect more evidence.
