Harish Rao Says KCR Persistently Sought Higher Krishna Water Allocation

Former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao wrote as many as 28 letters to the Centre seeking an enhanced share of Krishna river waters for the State, senior BRS leader and former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has said. He stated that the letters, addressed to successive Union governments and concerned authorities, reflected Mr. Rao’s sustained efforts to protect Telangana’s water interests after the State’s formation.
Mr. Harish Rao said the BRS government consistently raised the issue of equitable water allocation, pointing out that Telangana had been receiving less than its rightful share despite contributing significantly to the Krishna basin. He accused the present Congress government of failing to pursue the matter with the same seriousness and commitment.
Highlighting past initiatives, he said KCR had also taken up the issue at meetings of the Krishna River Management Board and other inter-State forums. The BRS leader asserted that securing a fair Krishna water share was crucial for irrigation, drinking water needs, and agricultural stability in Telangana, and vowed that the party would continue to fight for the State’s rights.
