Harminder Singh Sandhu Quits AAP, delivering a major political setback to the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab. Sandhu, the AAP in-charge from Chabbewal Assembly constituency in Hoshiarpur, resigned from the party’s primary membership on Tuesday.
Sandhu has actively worked for the party since 2017. He also contested the Assembly elections from Chabbewal on an AAP ticket. However, he lost the election to Congress leader Dr Raj Kumar. Later, AAP fielded Dr Raj Kumar for the Lok Sabha elections after he joined the party. During the subsequent by-election, the party ignored Sandhu again. AAP nominated Dr Raj Kumar’s son, Ishanak, instead.
Sources say Sandhu felt sidelined despite years of dedication. He reportedly resigned due to a lack of respect and recognition within the party. His disappointment had grown over repeated exclusions from key political opportunities.
After his resignation, political circles believe Sandhu may return to the Shiromani Akali Dal. His father was a senior Akali Dal leader for many years. Sandhu had earlier left the Akali Dal to join AAP before the 2017 elections.
The resignation has sparked debate in local political circles. It also raises questions about internal dissatisfaction within the AAP’s Punjab unit.
