Hindu man lynched in Bangladesh again, raising fresh concerns over mob violence in the country just days after the killing of Dipu Chandra Das. The latest incident took place in Pangsha sub-district of Rajbari district, around three-and-a-half hours from Dhaka.
The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Amrit Mondal, also known as Samrat. According to local media reports, he was beaten to death by villagers around 11 pm. Residents told The Daily Star that Samrat allegedly led a criminal group known as “Samrat Bahini,” which was accused of extortion and other illegal activities in the area.
Police officials said Samrat was rescued from the mob and rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Assistant Superintendent of Police Debrata Sarkar confirmed that Samrat had at least two criminal cases registered against him, including a murder charge. One of his associates, Mohammed Selim, was arrested during the operation, and firearms were recovered.
Preliminary findings by authorities suggest the killing was not communal in nature. The Bangladesh government condemned the incident and said it does not support mob justice or extrajudicial actions. Officials assured that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the full sequence of events and identify all individuals involved.
