India AI Preparedness Ranked among the world’s top tier, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday. He rejected IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva’s remarks that placed India in a second group of AI powers. He spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Moreover, Vaishnaw cited a Stanford study that ranks India third worldwide for AI preparedness. He said global benchmarks support India’s top-tier status. Therefore, he urged observers to reassess the IMF classification.
He also outlined India’s five-layer AI strategy. This includes applications, models, chips, infrastructure, and energy systems. He said India is advancing steadily across all layers.
However, Vaishnaw stressed that scale alone does not create value. Instead, he said strong applications drive business returns. Most enterprise needs, he added, require models with 20 to 50 billion parameters.
Meanwhile, India has deployed such models across sectors. These tools improve productivity and operational efficiency. The government also aims to expand AI use across the wider economy.
Furthermore, India will host an AI Summit next month. The event will highlight responsible AI, talent growth, and domestic innovation. Vaishnaw said these efforts strengthen India’s role in shaping global AI policy.
