India Russia Trade Boost Talks Aim for $100 Billion

India

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to New Delhi has given India–Russia ties a strong push, especially in defence and trade. After talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Putin said both countries aim to raise annual bilateral trade to $100 billion. Analysts believe the target is tough but achievable. India already buys large volumes of Russian crude, often drawing criticism from the United States.

To reach the new goal, both nations plan to work on strategies that expand Indian exports and reduce the trade gap. Officials are likely to focus on aligning India’s strongest sectors with Russia’s major import needs. India also hopes to tap areas where Russia faces unmet demand and where Indian industries are globally competitive.

Putin thanked PM Modi for the warm welcome given to his delegation. He said the two leaders share a close working relationship and monitor progress across all strategic areas. He noted that their talks, including a private dinner meeting at Modi’s residence, were productive and friendly. Their meeting at Hyderabad House for the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit reinforced the long-standing partnership between the two countries.

Both sides now look ready to turn discussions into actionable economic results.
