Islamabad and Rawalpindi were completely sealed on Friday ahead of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) announced anti-Israel protest. Authorities blocked all entry points, shut communication lines, and imposed Section 144, banning rallies, gatherings, and public events. Police expected clashes with TLP supporters after Friday prayers, according to local media reports.
Heavy security was deployed across both cities, with 6,000 police personnel guarding sensitive points. Containers were placed at Faizabad Interchange and along major routes like Murree Road and Multan Road to restrict movement. Schools, universities, and metro bus services were also suspended amid growing security concerns.
Traffic was severely disrupted, with major intersections blocked and long jams reported across Rawalpindi. Routine court hearings were affected as police couldn’t bring prisoners from Adiala Jail. The Senate session was adjourned due to low attendance.
Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry confirmed that TLP had not received permission for the rally. On Thursday, police raided TLP headquarters to arrest its chief Saad Rizvi but faced resistance. Supporters hurled stones and sticks, prompting police to fire tear gas to disperse the crowd.
