Karnataka CM Seeks PM’s Help to Ease Farmer Distress
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to avert what he described as “widespread farmer distress” across the State. In a letter delivered to the Prime Minister by Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao at the Mangaluru International Airport on Friday, the Chief Minister highlighted the severe challenges farmers are facing due to erratic rainfall, drought-like conditions, and mounting financial pressures.
The letter reportedly details the urgent need for substantial Central assistance, including drought relief funds, crop loss compensation, and support for drinking water and fodder supply in affected regions. The Chief Minister has also requested relaxation of norms to expedite relief distribution.
Rao said the State government has already initiated several measures but emphasised that Central support is crucial to prevent the crisis from deepening. The Karnataka government hopes for a swift response to mitigate the hardships of the farming community.
