KIA Becomes India’s First Level 3 Accessible Airport

Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has become the first airport in India to receive Level 3 Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI). This recognition highlights the airport’s significant progress in building an inclusive travel environment for passengers with diverse accessibility needs.
KIA advanced rapidly through the accreditation levels, moving from Level 1 to Level 3 in less than a year. The achievement reflects improvements such as enhanced digital accessibility, comprehensive staff training, stronger partnerships with disability inclusion groups, and the adoption of universal design principles across airport facilities.
Airport authorities said accessibility has been integrated into the core of airport operations, ensuring that passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility can navigate terminals independently and comfortably. The focus now is on continuous upgrades and deeper community engagement to further strengthen inclusion.
With this milestone, KIA sets a national benchmark for accessible airport infrastructure and passenger experience.
