Ladakh Leaders Submit Draft Proposal Seeking Statehood as the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) met officials of the Union home ministry in New Delhi. The groups handed over a detailed 29-page draft that outlines major political and administrative demands for the region. The first paragraph highlights the need for statehood, Sixth Schedule status and amnesty, which remain central concerns for many Ladakh residents.
LAB co-chairman Chering Dorjay Lakrook said the Ladakh leaders submit draft proposal to push for long-pending demands. He added that the document includes a strong appeal for the immediate release of all people arrested after the September 24 protest. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk tops the list as supporters continue to call his detention unjust.
Leaders from both bodies resumed talks after the Centre ordered a judicial probe into the Leh violence. The inquiry will be led by a former Supreme Court judge. The clashes on September 24 left four people dead and nearly 100 injured, including security personnel. Protesters damaged several buildings and torched a BJP office and a police vehicle during the unrest.
The agitation began during the 15-day hunger strike led by Wangchuk. The Centre accuses the activist of instigating the violence, while Ladakh groups insist on dialogue and constitutional safeguards for the region’s future.
