Laser Light Risks Raised at Coimbatore Airport

Coimbatore Airport alerts authorities on laser light interference during night landings, urging police and public awareness.

Authorities at Coimbatore International Airport have raised concerns over laser light interference from nearby areas. The beams pose risks to pilots during night landings and critical flight operations.

Airport officials explained that strong light beams can disorient pilots, cause glare, and trigger temporary flash blindness, increasing landing errors. Night conditions make eyes more sensitive, intensifying the danger. Several incidents have already been reported and flagged to police.

The problem is mainly linked to private establishments, including party halls and hotels, around the airport. Officials stressed that even accidental use of lasers endangers aviation safety. They have urged the police to strengthen surveillance and patrols, especially in areas like Chinniyampalayam and Neelambur during evenings.

The Airports Authority of India recommended public warnings, cautionary signage, and awareness drives to educate residents about legal and safety risks. City police are coordinating with airport authorities to ensure enforcement and sensitisation campaigns. Officials emphasized that safe landings require uninterrupted visibility and any distraction, even momentary, can compromise aviation safety.
