Maize Farmers Protest in Kittur Karnataka for Higher Price
Maize growers across several districts of the Kittur Karnataka region intensified their protests on Monday, demanding that the government fix a minimum support price (MSP) of ₹3,000 per quintal. Farmers said the current market rates are far below production costs, leaving them unable to recover even basic expenses on seeds, labour, and fertilisers. The agitation gained further momentum in Haveri, where several seers joined the protest to express solidarity with the farming community, urging the government to intervene immediately.
Protesters blocked roads and held sit-ins at key junctions, emphasising that delayed action would push maize farmers deeper into debt. They argued that extreme weather, rising input costs, and poor procurement support have worsened their economic distress. Farmer leaders warned that demonstrations would continue across the region until their MSP demand is met. They also called for efficient procurement centres and timely payments to ensure maize growers receive fair compensation for their produce.
