Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a crucial two-day visit to poll-bound Assam on December 20 and 21, during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation for two major development projects.

The visit will begin on December 20 with the inauguration of the newly constructed Bamboo Orchids Terminal–2 at Guwahati airport, built at a cost of ₹4,000 crore. On the same day, the Prime Minister will unveil an 80-foot-tall statue of Bharat Ratna Dr Gopinath Bordoloi in Guwahati and address a massive public gathering of nearly 70,000 people. He will also visit the newly built Assam BJP state headquarters and hold a brief meeting with party MPs and MLAs.

On December 21, PM Modi will interact with students under the “Pariksha Pe Charcha” programme during a boat ride on the Brahmaputra river. He will then visit the newly built martyr memorial dedicated to 855 martyrs of the Assam Movement at West Boragaon.

Later, the Prime Minister will travel to Dibrugarh and lay the foundation stone of a ₹10,000 crore brownfield ammonia-urea plant at Namrup. The proposed unit, with an annual capacity of 1.2 million metric tonnes, is expected to boost fertiliser availability, generate employment, and strengthen Assam’s industrial ecosystem.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state is fully prepared to ensure a smooth and successful visit.
