Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will “never desert” flood-hit Punjab. He pointed out that the ₹1,600 crore relief package was based on the state government’s official request.
Jakhar attacked the AAP government for claiming that the Centre still owes Punjab ₹60,000 crore in GST dues. He called the figure “bogus” and asked the state to show proof. He added that the Centre wants Punjab to use funds properly and stay accountable.
He also criticized the mismatch in damage reports. The Chief Secretary placed losses at ₹13,289 crore while Minister Hardeep Mundian claimed ₹20,000 crore. Jakhar said such confusion showed the state’s careless approach.
On opposition parties rejecting the PM’s relief, Jakhar said ₹1,600 crore “is not peanuts.” He promised more aid after central surveys. He also stressed that farmers could have received ₹42,000 per acre under the crop insurance scheme if the state had paid its ₹32 crore share.
