President urges MPs unity

President urges MPs unity as President Droupadi Murmu addressed a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Her address marked the beginning of the Budget Session. She called on lawmakers to work together for the nation’s larger interest.

The President stressed that Parliament must rise above political differences. She said unity was essential for national security, economic growth, and social harmony. According to her, democracy grows stronger when dialogue remains constructive and focused on national priorities.

President urges MPs unity to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. She said the government was speeding up reforms to build a developed and self-reliant India. These reforms focus on infrastructure, digital governance, manufacturing, and welfare delivery.

The President highlighted the importance of the swadeshi movement. She said self-reliance strengthens the economy and creates new opportunities for youth. She also noted that inclusive growth must reach farmers, women, the poor, and marginalized communities.

Invoking Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, she recalled their belief in unity despite differing views. She also remembered Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s commitment to constitutional values. Leaders such as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jayaprakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia, Deendayal Upadhyaya, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee were also mentioned.

The President said these leaders proved that national interest always came first. She noted that India’s strength lies in respecting diverse opinions while maintaining common goals. President urges MPs unity by reminding Parliament of this shared legacy.

She also spoke about social justice and good governance. She urged MPs to strengthen public trust through transparency and accountability. According to her, Parliament plays a key role in protecting democratic institutions.

Concluding her address, President Murmu expressed confidence in India’s future. She said collective effort would help the nation overcome challenges. She added that unity in Parliament would guide India toward becoming a developed nation by 2047.
