The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a significant breakthrough in the Red Fort car bomb blast case with the arrest of a Kashmiri man who allegedly assisted the suicide bomber responsible for the deadly explosion. The blast, which took place near the iconic Red Fort, resulted in the death of 10 civilians and left around 25 others injured.
The arrested accused has been identified as Amir Rashid Ali, a resident of Samboora in Pampore, Jammu and Kashmir. According to the NIA, the car used in the attack was registered under Ali’s name. He was taken into custody in Delhi following an extensive search operation launched after the agency took over the case from Delhi Police. Investigators revealed that Ali had travelled to the capital to help arrange the car later converted into a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
NIA officials stated that Ali conspired with the alleged suicide bomber Umar Un Nabi, who drove the explosive-laden vehicle that detonated. Nabi, a resident of Pulwama district, was previously working as an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine department at Al Falah University, Faridabad. Through forensic examination, the NIA has confirmed Nabi’s identity as the deceased driver of the IED-fitted vehicle.
Additionally, officers have seized another vehicle linked to Nabi, which is currently being inspected for further evidence. As part of the ongoing investigation, the agency has recorded statements from at least 73 witnesses, including survivors of the November 10 explosion that shook the national capital.
