Seven water aerodromes in Andhra Pradesh have crossed an important milestone after the Union Environment Ministry allowed the preparation of Terms of Reference (ToR). This decision pushes the ambitious seaplane project closer to implementation.
The approval came from an expert appraisal committee, which reviewed the proposal and set clear environmental conditions. As a result, the State can now begin detailed studies for these projects.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government has identified ten potential locations for water aerodromes. The main goal is to improve regional air connectivity and support tourism in less-accessible areas.
Importantly, seven water aerodromes in Andhra Pradesh have received permission only to prepare ToR, not to start construction. Therefore, officials will conduct mandatory public hearings soon to collect local feedback and address concerns.
The ToR will guide environmental impact studies. These studies will assess water quality, aquatic life, biodiversity, and effects on nearby communities.
In addition, the committee directed strict monitoring of ecologically sensitive areas. Authorities must also ensure that construction activities do not disturb natural habitats.
Once the studies are complete and final clearances arrive, the government plans to launch seaplane services. Tourism and aviation officials believe the project can create jobs and open new economic opportunities. Overall, this conditional approval marks the beginning of a careful and transparent evaluation process.
