Shivamogga Farmer Receives National Award in New Delhi

A proud moment for Karnataka, as Shivamogga farmer Ananthamurthy Javali received a national award in New Delhi for his remarkable work in conserving and promoting plant species. The Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPV&FRA) presented the honour for the year 2022–23.

The ceremony took place in New Delhi on Wednesday, November 12. Union Minister for Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan personally handed over the Plant Genome Saviour Farmer Recognition Award to Mr. Javali. The honour included a cash prize of ₹1 lakh and a citation.

Shivamogga farmer Ananthamurthy Javali has long worked to conserve traditional plant varieties. Through his dedication, he has encouraged several farmers in Ripponpet and nearby areas to grow native crops. His continuous efforts have strengthened biodiversity and promoted sustainable farming methods.

Moreover, Dr. Nagarajappa Adiveppar, professor at Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, also received appreciation. He guided Mr. Javali through the award application process and helped document his conservation work. His support played a key role in securing national recognition.

This achievement not only honours Mr. Javali but also highlights the importance of local innovation in Indian agriculture. It reminds farmers across the country that preserving native plant species is vital for long-term sustainability. Ultimately, the award brings pride to Shivamogga and inspires a new generation of eco-conscious cultivators.
