President Droupadi Murmu stressed that smart teachers are more important than smart classrooms or blackboards. Speaking at the National Teachers Awards 2025 ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, she said technology and modern facilities play a role in education, but nothing can replace the role of a good teacher.
Recalling her own days as a teacher, Murmu said that teaching was a meaningful part of her life. She noted that teachers who understand their students’ needs create real change. Smart teachers make learning interesting, effective, and filled with care.
“Smart teachers shape students to meet the needs of society and the nation,” she explained. “They instill dignity, discipline, and a sense of security in children.”
Murmu presented awards to over 60 educators who made outstanding contributions to teaching and learning. She underlined that building the character of students is the primary responsibility of every teacher.
She concluded that responsible and sensitive teachers help students grow into dedicated citizens with strong moral values. For her, the role of smart teachers goes far beyond technology and modern infrastructure. Smart teachers are more important than smart classrooms.
