The political entry of Mokama’s strongman Suraj Bhan Singh joins RJD marks a major shift in Bihar’s power circles. His joining was delayed until Monday or Tuesday as Tejashwi Yadav handled seat-sharing talks in Delhi. Suraj Bhan’s wife, Veena Devi, and brother Chandan Singh will also join RJD. Once a Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader, Suraj Bhan earlier served as MP from Ballia, while Veena Devi and Chandan Singh were MPs from Munger and Nawada.
Tejashwi Yadav aims to strengthen his vote base by bringing in the Bhumihar community through Suraj Bhan Singh joins RJD. Veena Devi may contest Mokama against Anant Singh. This move could reshape caste equations, especially in Shahabad and Magadh, where Bhumihars dominate.
Suraj Bhan’s political journey spans decades — from being an independent MLA in 2000 to a key figure under Ram Vilas Paswan. Now, aligning with RJD, his family’s influence may prove crucial in the 2025 Bihar elections.
