Former JDU MLA Rahul Sharma has joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by Tejashwi Yadav, in Bihar. The move has created ripples in Ghosi, a key assembly seat in Jehanabad district. This Bihar political shift puts CPI(ML) MLA Rambali Singh Yadav’s ticket at risk. Tejashwi might reserve the seat for RJD and field Rahul Sharma, sparking tension in the Grand Alliance.
Rahul’s father, Jagdish Sharma, served as MLA from Ghosi for eight consecutive terms and once as MP from Jehanabad. His influence in the Magadh region is strong, and this shift is seen as Tejashwi’s strategy to attract Bhumihar voters. Jagdish Sharma, who was denied a ticket by Nitish Kumar’s JDU in 2024, has been upset since then.
Rahul Sharma’s entry into RJD could reshape alliances in Ghosi. Talks between RJD and CPI(ML) over seat-sharing are still underway, and the final decision is expected soon.
