The Telangana Farmer DISCOM will begin operations on June 2, marking Telangana Formation Day. The state government created this new power distribution company to provide reliable electricity mainly for agriculture and irrigation sectors. Officials say the Telangana Farmer DISCOM will improve electricity supply for farmers across the state.
The new company, called Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company Ltd (TGRPDCL), will work along with the existing northern and southern power distribution companies. It will focus mainly on supplying electricity to agricultural connections and irrigation needs. The Telangana Farmer DISCOM is expected to handle about 42% of the state’s power distribution based on electricity consumption patterns.
Officials have already started dividing assets, power purchase agreements, and employees among the three discoms. Field surveys of agricultural transformers and infrastructure are also underway. Around 2,000 employees from existing discoms will initially support the new organisation.
The government believes the new discom will improve electricity management and ensure stable power supply for farmers in Telangana.
