Supreme Court orders action against dangerous stray dogs amid rising attacks

New Delhi: The Supreme Court orders action against dangerous stray dogs as cases of dog attacks continue to rise across India. The court said authorities must take strict steps to protect people, especially children and elderly citizens, from aggressive street dogs.

During the hearing, the bench allowed officials to euthanize rabid, severely ill, or aggressive stray dogs if they pose a threat to human life. The Supreme Court orders action against dangerous stray dogs after noting that many states have struggled to control the increasing number of dog attack incidents.

The bench, led by Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and N.V. Anjaria, also refused to change its earlier directions on stray dog management. Authorities must move stray dogs found near hospitals, schools, bus stands, and railway stations to shelters instead of releasing them back into the same areas.

The court expressed concern over rising attacks on children, tourists, and elderly people. It warned that officials who fail to implement these orders may face strict action.

High Courts across the country were also asked to monitor the proper implementation of these directions.
