Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to explore the use of solar power for street lights while also inviting tenders from major companies for their maintenance. He reviewed the issue at the Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) today with officials from the Municipal Administration, Panchayat Raj, and GHMC.
The Chief Minister instructed authorities to conduct a detailed survey of every electric pole across the state. He emphasized the need for third-party audits by reputed institutions like IITs to ensure transparency. Revanth Reddy further ordered the integration of all street lights with the Command Control Centre and recommended using artificial intelligence for real-time monitoring and analysis.
In rural areas, the Chief Minister suggested that responsibility for the management of street lights should rest with gram panchayats. He added that the authority for installation and maintenance should be given to sarpanches, with oversight provided at the MPDO level.
Senior officials including CM’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Principal Secretary Sheshadri, Secretary Manik Raj, Panchayat Raj Principal Secretary N. Sridhar, Municipal Secretary Sridevi, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, and other key officers attended the review meeting.
