Lalu Yadav dahi chura bhoj will not be organised this Makar Sankranti, senior RJD leaders have confirmed. State party president Mangani Lal Mandal said the decision was taken due to Lalu Yadav’s health and the present family situation. For years, this event has remained an important political and social tradition in Bihar.
The dahi chura bhoj usually takes place at Rabri Devi’s residence in Patna. It attracts political leaders, party workers and well-known social figures from across the state. This year, however, the leadership decided not to hold the gathering. Mandal made it clear that there is no political reason behind the move.
He also said people should not see this decision as a sign of internal conflict or political tension. According to him, the choice was purely personal and related to health concerns.
Even though Lalu Yadav will not host the feast, the tradition will continue. His elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, will organise a separate dahi chura bhoj on January 14. Several political leaders from different parties are expected to attend the event.
Political observers believe this change has drawn attention, as Lalu Yadav’s Makar Sankranti feast has long been seen as a symbol of political bonding in Bihar.
