Leadership Tussle Intensifies

A power struggle within Karnataka’s ruling party has intensified as tensions rise between two top leaders — Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. The rivalry sharpened after Shivakumar made an unexpected visit to Parappana Agrahara central jail to meet two incarcerated party MLAs believed to be his loyalists. The move is widely seen as an attempt to consolidate support amid growing speculation about a change in leadership.
Meanwhile, several MLAs aligned with Shivakumar have travelled to Delhi, pushing for a leadership rotation formula they claim was promised earlier. Siddaramaiah’s supporters, however, maintain that he should continue in the top post, arguing that any decision regarding leadership must come from the party’s central leadership.
Amid the escalating internal jockeying, party leaders have urged both factions to refrain from public statements and maintain unity, even as pressure mounts behind the scenes over control and future leadership of the state government.
