The liquor prohibition in Bihar debate has intensified after a Kushwaha MLA questioned the need for the ban. Madhav Anand, an MLA from the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, said the liquor ban in the state should be reviewed after he met Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
Speaking to the media, Anand said the liquor prohibition in Bihar debate is important because the policy is causing a major loss of government revenue. He added that the state needs more funds for development and suggested that awareness programs would work better than a complete ban.
Anand also said he had earlier raised the issue in the Assembly and asked for a review of the prohibition law. According to him, prohibition is not a complete solution to alcohol abuse and the government should focus on public awareness instead.
Bihar implemented a complete liquor ban in 2016 under former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Since then, the policy has remained a major political and social issue in the state.
However, the current government has not announced any plan to remove the ban. The debate around the liquor policy is likely to continue in the coming months.
