58 Crore Lost in Digital Arrest Scam: Three Mule Account Holders Arrested in Mumbai
A Mumbai-based stock investor and his wife fell victim to a massive ‘digital arrest’ fraud, losing Rs 58 crore. The police investigation revealed that the fraudulent money transfers occurred between August 19 and October 8, moving funds into 18 different bank accounts spread across Maharashtra and other states. Authorities arrested three individuals identified as “mule account” holders who facilitated the movement of the stolen money. The scam reportedly involved scammers impersonating law enforcement officials and threatening the victims with arrest unless large sums were paid digitally. Police are intensifying efforts to trace the remaining funds and apprehend all those involved in the sophisticated cybercrime. Officials have warned the public to remain vigilant against such frauds and verify any calls or messages that demand urgent payments or personal information. This case highlights the rising threat of digital scams targeting high-net-worth individuals.
