Drug and weapon consignments smuggled from Pakistan via drones remain a major concern. In the last 24 hours, Punjab Police and central agencies seized more than 35 kg contraband, showing how drone smuggling in Punjab continues to threaten security.
The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) with BSF caught a cross-border peddler carrying 26 kg heroin. In another case, Amritsar Police seized 9 kg narcotics and arrested six people, including a private schoolteacher.
Police traced all consignments to gangster Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Jatt, who runs the racket from abroad with Pakistani smugglers. Officers arrested Sajan Singh, alias Billa, with 25.9 kg heroin and a Glock pistol. He admitted to receiving several drone drops in recent months and worked with Happy Jatt through social media.
Amritsar Commissionerate Police also busted two more cartels, arresting Honey (18), Parmdeep Singh (18), Harwinder Singh (19), Gurpreet Singh (25), Jasbir Kaur (40) and Kulwinder Kaur (54). The seizures included 8.062 kg heroin. Jasbir Kaur reportedly had direct links with Pakistan-based suppliers.
Officials said the crackdown is a big step forward, though drone smuggling in Punjab remains a growing challenge.
