Congress seat demand in Bihar elections: CPI-ML tells party to fight less, win more

Congress seat demand in Bihar elections sparks alliance debate

Congress seat demand in Bihar elections has once again created debate inside the Mahagathbandhan. CPI-ML leader Deepankar Bhattacharya advised Congress not to seek more seats than it can manage. He reminded the party that in 2020 it demanded 70 seats but won only 19. In 2015, when it contested 40 seats, it won 27. Deepankar said the Congress seat demand in Bihar elections should reflect its true capacity.

He explained that contesting fewer seats with focus could help Congress win more and strengthen the Grand Alliance against NDA. Balance among partners, he added, is crucial for success. Congress must avoid repeating mistakes and aim for realistic goals.

Deepankar also suggested that the alliance may not project a chief ministerial candidate immediately, but Tejashwi Yadav could naturally emerge as the leader.

Some Congress leaders argue that in 2020 they received extra seats from RJD, which affected their strike rate. However, other allies want Congress to focus on quality, not quantity. Fighting fewer but stronger seats could give the party better results and strengthen the opposition’s chances.
