A Delhi court has ordered in-camera proceedings in the rape case against Samir Modi, brother of businessman Lalit Modi. The Saket Court accepted the complainant’s lawyer’s request, citing the sensitivity of the case.
The court also granted a two-day extension of Samir Modi’s police remand. Delhi Police had sought three days but received two. Modi was arrested at the airport while trying to leave the city and was produced in court after one day of custody.
The complainant, a former colleague, accused Modi of rape during their professional association. An FIR was registered on September 10 under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC. Police sources told The Indian Express that the woman had earlier demanded ₹50 crore to settle the matter and had been in a live-in relationship with Modi for 7–8 years.
During the hearing, Delhi Police argued they needed more time for investigation. The defense opposed the extension, but the complainant’s lawyer insisted on privacy. The court agreed and ruled for private hearings to protect the victim’s circumstances.
Meanwhile, Samir Modi’s counsel requested a brief passover as a senior lawyer was on the way to represent him.
