The build-up to the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clash is dominated by a handshake controversy from their last meeting. Reports suggested Indian players avoided shaking hands with Pakistan players, which the Pakistan Cricket Board flagged to the ICC.
Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin dismissed the issue. “Nothing was wrong with shaking hands. When you play, play fully. Playing under protest has no point,” he said. He stressed players must give their best once they agree to play.
Ex-cricketer Nikhil Chopra offered another view, hinting at a possible on-field verbal spat. “Maybe some Indian players were spoken of ill. Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav might have decided not to shake hands. Such controversies affect focus,” he said, adding that boycotts at ICC events can lead to penalties.
Chopra summed up the mood in Bollywood style: “Picture abhi baaki hai. Expect drama when India and Pakistan clash.” Azharuddin noted that each match has its own dynamics and instructions, so comparisons are hard.
With no bilateral series, Asia Cup matches carry extra intensity. The handshake row adds fuel, but one thing is clear: when India and Pakistan meet, expect drama, intensity, and surprises.
